How Duckpaddle Began

Duckpaddle was founded by Lance Goodwin over 30 years ago, starting from humble beginnings at his home in Forsbrook, Staffordshire.

After retiring, Lance began building handcrafted bird tables as a hobby. What started as a small, creative project quickly gained attention locally, with increasing demand leading him to expand into rustic fencing, gates, and rose arches, all made from traditional wooden poles.

Within just a year, Lance’s work had become widely admired, and what began as a passion project naturally evolved into a growing business.

 

A Family-Run Business Built on Craftsmanship

Today, Duckpaddle remains a family-run business, now led by Lance’s son James and his wife, Becky.

From our dedicated workshop in Staffordshire, we continue to design and manufacture all of our products with the same care, attention to detail, and passion for quality that the business was built on.

Our team combines traditional woodworking techniques with modern finishing methods to create long-lasting, beautifully crafted outdoor furniture.

From Garden Shows to a Recognised Name

As Duckpaddle developed, Lance continued to refine his designs and introduced one of the brand’s most recognisable products, the wooden garden swing seat, crafted from pressure-treated, tanalised timber.

These early designs laid the foundation for the business as it stands today.

Lance began showcasing Duckpaddle products at local garden shows, where their quality and craftsmanship quickly attracted attention. This success led to opportunities to exhibit at some of the UK’s most prestigious garden and outdoor living events, helping to establish Duckpaddle as a trusted name in garden furniture.
